Can't sign in or activate HBO GO on Amazon Fire TV

If you can't sign in or activate HBO GO on your Amazon Fire TV, follow these steps:

Step 1: Troubleshoot your computer or phone 

Computer: If you can't sign in on your Amazon Fire TV using your computer, try the troubleshooting steps in this article: I can't sign in on my Fire TV using my computer. You can also try signing in using your phone (instead of your computer). To do this, open a web browser on your phone and go to HBOGO.com/activate. For complete steps, see Sign in on Amazon Fire TV.

Phone: If you can't sign in on your Amazon Fire TV using your phone/tablet, see Can't sign in using an Android or iOS device.

If you still can't sign in, try the next step. 

Step 2: Clear app data

  1. On your Fire TV, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > HBO GO.
  2. Select Force Stop
  3. Select Clear data, and then choose Clear data again to confirm.
  4. Open HBO GO and from Welcome, choose Sign In. For complete steps, see Sign in on Amazon Fire TV.

If you still can't sign in, try the next step.

Step 3: Uninstall/reinstall HBO GO

  1. Remove the HBO GO app from your Amazon Fire TV. To do this, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > HBO GO > Uninstall.
  2. Restart your Amazon Fire TV (disconnect and reconnect the power).
  3. Download HBO GO from the Amazon Fire TV app store.

Try signing in again on your Fire TV. If you still can't sign in, try the next step.

Step 4: Try signing in on another device

  1. Go to HBOGO.com and try signing in.
  2. Download the HBO GO app on your phone or tablet and try signing in.

Step 5: Reset your Fire TV

If you still can't sign in, try resetting your Fire TV by going to Settings > Device > Reset to Factory Defaults. Then run all available software updates and retry activation. 

Why do I have to sign in again on my Amazon Fire TV?

All TV Providers require users to sign in to HBO GO periodically as a security measure.
