Troubleshoot issues with Chromecast on Android phones or tablets

If you're experiencing issues using HBO GO and Chromecast on your Android phone or tablet, try the following steps:

Note: Because there are many different Android phones and tablets, the exact procedures might vary from those below.

Step 1: Close and restart HBO GO

  1. On your phone or tablet, go to Settings > Apps. Or on older versions of Android, go to Settings > Applications > Application Manager.
  2. Tap HBO GO in the list of apps (you might have to scroll through the list to find it).
  3. Tap Force Stop.
  4. Wait a few seconds.
  5. Open HBO GO and see if the problem is resolved.

Step 2: Shut down and restart your device

  1. Hold down the power button until you're prompted to power off your device (turn the device off, instead of putting it in sleep mode).
  2. Wait at least twenty seconds.
  3. Turn your device back on.
  4. Open HBO GO and see if the problem is resolved.

Step 3: Clear the cache

  1. On your phone or tablet, go to Settings > Apps. Or on older versions of Android, go to Settings > Applications > Application Manager.
  2. Tap HBO GO in the list of apps.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Tap Clear Data to clear HBO GO app data from your device.
  5. Tap Clear Cache.
  6. Open HBO GO and see if the problem is resolved.

Step 4: Uninstall and reinstall HBO GO

  1. On your phone or tablet, go to Settings > Apps. Or on older versions of Android, go to Settings > Applications > Application Manager.
  2. Tap HBO GO in the list of apps.
  3. Tap Uninstall.
  4. Download and reinstall HBO GO from the Google Play Store.

Step 5: Check for software updates 

  1. Check for Android software updates on your phone or tablet by going to Settings > Software Update. Or on older versions of Android, go to Settings > About Phone > System Update.

Note  HBO GO is not supported on rooted Android devices or devices with a custom ROM. As a result, you may encounter problems that can only be resolved by restoring your device to factory settings.
